Women’s Volleyball Takes on FDU and Rider This Week on the Road

The Peacocks are on the road again playing FDU to start the week, followed by Rider on Saturday afternoon.

Opening Word: 
  • The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team is back on the road for two games this week.
  • The team will start the week off with their final non conference game of the season against Fairleigh Dickinson.
  • Then on Saturday the team heads up to Lawrenceville to face Rider University.
  • The Peacocks face FDU on Wednesday at 7 p.m., before Rider on Saturday at 1 p.m. 
  • The team picked up their first conference win of the season with a sweep against Manhattan on September 19.
  • The Peacocks picked up their second conference sweep against Siena on Sunday, September 30. 
  • In non-conference action, Saint Peter's picked up a win against NJIT on August 25th, the program's first win since November 2015, and followed that up with up with their second win of the season against Lafayette College.
  • Freshman Alanis Alvarado leads the team with a total of 179 kills, Angeleyshka Curbelo is leading in points (203.5) and Karla Seda has 274 digs in 20 games.
  • Alvarado has also recorded a team-best five double-doubles.
Scout/Series History: 
  • This will be the second time the Peacocks face FDU this season.
  • In the first match, the Knights won (3-0) to earn their first win of the season.
  • Their second win on the season was against Delaware State on September 15. 
  • This will be the 34th time the Peacocks take on FDU, with an all-time record of (22-11).
  • Rider has picked up three conference wins against Quinnipiac, Niagara, and Siena.
  • The Broncs also have three conference losses against Fairfield, Canisius, and Marist. 
  • The Peacocks' all-time record against Rider is (20-22). 
  • The last time the team beat Rider was on October 10, 2010, winning (3-0).

  • The Peacocks are back in Jersey City for two matches next weekend.
  • On Saturday, October 12 the team will face Niagara at 1 p.m.
  • On Sunday, October 13, the team will play Canisius at 1 p.m. 
MAAC Weekly Honors   
  • Freshman Alanis Alvarado picked up two awards to start the season, earning Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for the Week of August 27.
  • Freshman Karen Ramiu earned her first award, Co-Rookie of the Week, for the week of October 2.
Freshman Leading the Flock at Bucknell Invitational 
  • The Peacocks were led by their young freshmen talent at the Bucknell Invitational, the first tournament of the season, giving the program its first win in over two season.
  • Alanis Alvarado led the attack at the invitational, posting a team-high 41 kills (3.42 kills per set), followed by Angeleyshka Curbelo, who was second on the team with 23 kills (1.92 kills per set).
  • Angelee Ng led the sets by posting a team-best 74 assists (6.73 assists per set). She also posted the most service aces on the team with four total.
  • Defensively, Alvarado posted the most digs for the Peacocks, logging 56 (4.67 digs per set).
  • In the winning match against NJIT, Alvarado (21 kills, 29 digs), Curbelo (11 kills, 15 digs), and Ng (41 assists, 17 digs) each posted double-doubles, marking the first time three Peacocks registered double-doubles in a match since November 11, 2015. Alvarado's 20-20 was also the programs first since the same date.
  • Alvarado concluded the invitational by being named to the All-Tournament team.
Puerto Rican's Leading the Flock
  • The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team is the only Division I team in the country with 10 active student-athletes on the roster born in Puerto Rico. 
  • In addition, 70 percent of the Peacocks points this season have been scored by players native to Puerto Rico.
