Box Score DOVER, DE – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team fell 2-0, to Delaware St. in non-conference action on Wednesday night. The Peacocks record drops to 1-4-1 after the loss.
"Unfortunately it was a slow start from us and we conceded two soft goals in the first quarter of the game," said head coach Melissa Sherwood. "The players showed great grit and desire to get themselves back in the game and we really dominated for the last three quarters of the match. Their goalkeeper made a terrific save in the first half and the same again in the second. We had enough chances to win the game, but unfortunately, we just couldn't get the ball to hit the back of the net."
The Peacocks gave up the first goal 9:49 into the match to Braxton Clark. Eight minutes later at 17:11, Jasmine Warren scored from 20 yards out for the final goal of the game.
Saint Peter's had slight advantages in shots (16 to 15) with 11 of the shots on goal and corners (5 to 3) but were unsuccessful finding the goal. Genesis Castrellon led the Peacocks with three shots on goal, while Aleena Cruz and Barbara Paiva added two on goal each.
Peacock goalkeeper Taylor McLean, made five saves in goal, while Delaware St. got 11 total saves between their two keepers.
"The slow start cost us and we need to make sure we hit the ground running in all games, home and away," added Sherwood.
The Peacocks conclude non-conference play and are back in action on Saturday, September 24, at home against Iona.
