Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Monmouth University claimed the first annual hOURglass Rivalry crown for the 2013-14 season. Saint Peter's University finished third in the rivalry between the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) universities that reside in the state of New Jersey.
Monmouth earned 35 points to edge out Rider (30 points) and Saint Peter's (27 points) in the first-ever rivalry competition between the three Garden State universities. Only the sports that all three schools sponsor count in the competition which includes men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis and men's golf.
In sports which compete head-to-head except for men's and women's basketball the winning program is awarded one point in the competition. For men's and women's basketball two points are awarded to the winning school. For cross country, track and field and men's golf, the top-ranking team in the championship earns three points, the second team among the group earns two points and one point goes to the team that finishes third.
The hOURglass Rivalry starts for the Peacocks on Oct. 1 when the women's soccer squad travels to Monmouth for a 7 p.m. contest.
