Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Iona Gaels finished its doubleheader sweep of Saint Peter's on Tuesday with a 13-5 victory.
Samantha Storms (Lake Geneva, Wis./William Bay) paced Saint Peter's with her two RBIs. Stephanie Gilronan (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) finished with two runs scored.
Sarah Schultz recorded four RBIs, including a grand slam in the third inning.
The game resumed on Tuesday following a stoppage last Saturday due to inclement weather after the first inning. Saint Peter's held a 2-0 lead before the game got postponed.
With the bases loaded in the second inning, Candice Koch (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) earned a walk to give Saint Peter's a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning, Lee Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) hit a RBI-single to the shortstop, advancing Gilronan around the bases to expand the lead. Chelsea Crews (Seattle, Wash./Mountlake Terrace) also scored a run in the inning.
Iona mounted a comeback in the third inning, sparked by a three-run blast from Kristen Turner to cut the deficit to two. The Gaels took the lead in the inning, following a grand slam from Shultz to give Iona a 7-5 lead.
The Gaels tacked on five more runs in fourth, on its way to a 13-5 victory in six innings.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 4-18 overall and 0-2 in MAAC play. Iona advances to 7-14 and 2-0 in conference action.
The Peacocks return to action for its Jaroschak Field debut against Wagner on Apr. 3. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
