Manhattan Defeats Women's Basketball 50-41 On Senior Day

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Manhattan defeated Saint Peter's, 50-41, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Senior Day.

Kaydine Bent (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) recorded her 12th double-double of the season, notching 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kylie Garrett (Mt. Orab, Ohio/Western Brown and Neechelle Ingram (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) each finished with six points.

Allison Skrec led the way for the Jaspers, finishing with 14 points and a game-high nine assists. Ashley Stec added 16 points and four rebounds.

Manhattan used a late run at the end of the first half to pull away and hold on for the season sweep of the Peacocks.

Each team was able to keep pace with one another for much of the first half. With Saint Peter's trailing 20-17, Khadijah Young (Copley, Ohio/Shaker Heights) nailed a 3-pointer to knot the game at 20 with 6:21 left in the half.

Fueled by Skrec and Stec, Manhattan began to pull away from the Peacocks, ending the first half on an 8-2 run, to take a 28-22 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, each team exchanged baskets in the opening minutes with the Jaspers out in front, 32-25. Following a field goal from Bent, Manhattan hit three consecutive 3-pointers to open up a 41-27 lead with 12:54 left to play.

Saint Peter's did not go away, as the team went on a 12-4 spurt, fueled by six points from Bent, to cut the deficit to six with 3:16 remaining. The Peacocks were unable to cut the lead any further, as Shayna Ericksen scored five points in the final 2:18 to secure the 50-41 victory.

Aziza May (South Euclid, Ohio/Charles F. Brush) finished with five points and three rebounds in the loss. Antonia Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Dwight School) chipped in with four points and two assists.

With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 3-25 overall and 2-17 in MAAC play. Manhattan improves to 9-19 overall and 8-11 in conference play.

Saint Peter's returns to action Feb. 28, when they travel up to New York for its season-finale against Siena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
