Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Rider defeated Saint Peter's 2-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Ashley Drozd (Baiting Hallows, N.Y./Riverhead) notched a tally for a second-straight game for the Peacocks (1-16-0, 1-7-0 MAAC) off an assist from Alix Couto (Wall, N.J./Wall) and Lauren Solene (Fall City, N.J./Mount Si) made eight saves in the loss.
Ellie Smith scored for the Broncs (10-4-1, 5-2-1 MAAC) off an assist from Caroline Healy while Bethany-May Howard turned away two shots in the winning effort.
Rider rallied from a 1-0 deficit with a goal in the second half and the golden goal in overtime to earn the 2-1 victory.
Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard early in the first half when Couto carried the ball down the right side of the field and then served the ball toward the box, where Drozd's knocked into the left netting to hand the Peacocks a 1-0 edge at the 11:25 mark.
The score remained in favor of Saint Peter's until Healy passed the ball to Smith in the middle of the box and Smith scored at the 55:59 mark to even the score at 1.
In the first minute of overtime, Priscilla Santos served the ball into the box and a Peacocks' defender attempted to clear the ball, but the ball ended up in the net for an own goal to give the Broncs the one-goal victory.
After Rider tied the game, both teams have several chances to score in regulation, but could not convert.
Solene turned away scoring chances by Michelle Iacono in the 58th Healy in the 72nd and Emily Schmitt in the 84th minutes while Howard stopped a Couto attempt in the 60th minute.
Saint Peter's returns to action on Saturday at Quinnipiac. Match time is 1 p.m.
