Box Score WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Monmouth defeated Saint Peter's 8-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Monmouth scored six times in the first half and never looked back to earn the win in the second meeting of the year in the hOURglass Rivalry in 2014-15. The Saint Peter's women's tennis team downed the Hawks 4-3 on Sept. 23 in the first rivalry matchup.
Madi Grieve, Julie Spracklin and Erica Murphy each found the twine twice for the Hawks (7-4-0, 2-1-0 MAAC) while Rachelle Ross tallied a goal and two assists in the winning effort.
Monmouth took an early 1-0 lead when Alexis McTamney found the twine at the 2:29 mark off a cross off the foot of Ross. Nearly seven minutes later Spracklin notched her first tally of the night off a feed from Sophia Centi at 11:38 for a 2-0 advantage.
The Hawks then scored twice in a span of 43 seconds to increase its margin to four goals. Murphy posted the third goal of game at 19:15 off helpers from Ross and Kristen Brett before Spracklin knocked in her second tally of the evening off a Cara Poole assist at 19:58.
After dishing out two assists, Ross got in the goal column when she found the twine unassisted at 23:30. Grieve capped the first half scoring when she took a pass from Breynn Collazo at 40:32 for a 6-0 margin going into halftime.
Murphy recorded her second goal of the game unassisted at 60:07 before Grieve and Collazo made the connection again at 81:57 for the 8-0 victory.
Carlee Gonzalez (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) notched the Peacocks (1-10-0, 1-1-0 MAAC) lone shot on goal on the afternoon, but her shot was saved in the sixth minute.
Lauren Solene (Fall City, Wash./Mount Si) made seven saves in 65:26 minutes of action for Saint Peter's while Nicole D'Agostino turned away one shot for the Hawks.
The Peacocks return to action on Saturday at home against Siena. Game time is 12 p.m.
