Wagner Downs Women's Soccer In Season Opener, 3-1

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Wagner defeated Saint Peter's 3-1 in the women's soccer season opener for both teams on Friday.

Greta Vogel (Fountain Hills, Ariz./Fountain Hills), who ranked third on the team last year's notched the Peacocks' (0-1) lone goal on the afternoon off an assist from Nicole Tafrow (Mercerville, N.J./Nottingham) . Molly O'Halloran (Monroe, N.Y./Washingtonville) turned away four shots in the loss.

Siara Kolpon paced the Seahawks (1-0) with a goal and two assists while Jackie Nicholas added a tally and a helper. Amanda Sieferman also found the back of the net in the winning effort.

Wagner took the early advantage and never looked back to earn down Saint Peter's for the second time in the inaugural game of the year between the two programs.

The Seahawks got the scoring started early in the first half when Kolpon dished out an assist to Nicholas at 15:22 and then Kolpon feed Sieferman a minute later to give Wagner a 2-0 lead.

The Peacocks answered when Vogel took a pass from Tafrow and found the back of the net to cut the score in half at 2-1 in the 20th minute. It was Tafrow's first career point.

Wagner scored the only goal in the second half with Nicholas returning the favor to Kolpon in the 57th minute to seal the victory. 

Saint Peter's head coach Rob Bielan made his Peacocks' coaching debut in the game after serving as the head coach down the street at New Jersey City University for the last seven years.

The Peacocks return to action on Thursday at home against NJIT. Game time is 4 p.m.
