Baseball Hosts Marist This Weekend In MAAC Action

Opening Pitch – The Saint Peter's University baseball team will return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action after hosting back-to-back mid-week non-league games...the Peacocks welcome Marist College to Jaroschak Field for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday...Saturday's doubleheader will kick off at 12pm with first pitch of Sunday's single game also slated for noon... 

Peacocks vs. Red Foxes - The Peacocks are 12-36 all-time against the Red Foxes…the first contest between both teams took place during the 1996…Last year the Peacocks lost the three-game series to Marist, winning just one contest...

Last Time Out - Saint Peter's enters this weekend after dropping both non-conference contests against in-state opponents Seton Hall (Tuesday) and Monmouth (Wednesday)...the Peacocks fell 13-5 to the Pirates and 13-8 to the Hawks...Jon Kristoffersen paced the Peacocks against Monmouth with a 4-for-5 performance, three runs scored and an RBI...

About Marist – The Red Foxes come into this weekend at second place in the MAAC standings with an overall record of 22-19-1 and a MAAC record of 12-6...most recently Marist dropped two contests to Brown in non-conference action...in their last MAAC series, the Red Foxes lost two of three to Canisius in buffalo, N.Y. to close out the month of April...Marist is led by Zach Shank, who is batting .376 on the year with 39 runs scored and 34 runs batted in…

Fan Appreciation Day - Saint Peter's University will celebrate Fan Appreciation Day during its baseball and softball doubleheaders at Jaroschak Field on Saturday...during the afternoon, there will be a hot dog, ice cream and cotton candy carts...the food will be free and courtesy of Saint Peter's Student Activities...the Peacocks baseball team will start a three-game series with Marist on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m...

Striking Out Cancer - The Saint Peter's baseball team is helping to raise awareness and join the fight against breast cancer...the team is looking to help Strikeout Cancer and has set a goal to raise $1,000 with all the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society...the team's efforts will culminate during its Mother's Day game on May 12...along with raising money, the team will wear pink shoelaces and socks during its final home game at Jaroschak Field on May 12 against Siena...in addition, Campus Ministry will be selling black and pink t-shirts for $12 with the slogan Strikeout Cancer on the back of the shirt...if you are interested in donating to the Saint Peter's baseball fund, click here...

Kristoffersen On A Roll – Rookie infielder Jon Kristoffersen enters this weekend's series after ending the month of April hot…since the beginning of the Manhattan series on April 27th the freshmen has been batting .526 with an on base percentage of .526 and a slugging percentage of .942…one of the highlights during the rookie's tear was his game-winning, run-scoring base hit on Sunday, April 28th to lead the Peacocks to a 3-2 walk-off win over MAAC foe Manhattan College…for the game, he was the lone Peacock to record a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 while also driving in two of the team's three runs…for the week he drove in six runs, including two more against the Jaspers in a 4-2 loss on Saturday…most recently he went 4-for-5 with three runs and a RBI to lead the Peacocks in their defeat to Monmouth...

Walk It Out – On Sunday, April 28th the Peacocks secured their first walk-off win of the season over Manhattan College…the last time Saint Peter's won in walk-off fashion was last year, when they hosted NJIT at Riverfront Stadium in Newark, N.J…the Peacocks won 5-4 in ten innings, with the winning hit being a walk-off solo homerun by Chris Grimes to left field…

Peacocks On The National Stage - Sophomore Nicholas Henriquez is presently 29th in all of Division I in hit by pitches per game (0.36) and 41st in total hit by pitches (14)...Matt Speckmann is 32th and 41st, respectively in the same categories...as a team, the Peacocks are 24th in the nation in hit by pitches...

It Feels So Good To Be Back - After playing their first 22 games of the year on the road, the Peacocks held their first home game of the season on April 3rd against Long Island-Brooklyn...Saint Peter's will play 15 of their last 21 contests at Jaroschak Field...

Better Than The 8-Ball - The Peacocks scored nine runs in the top of ninth against Fairfield University on April 7th, resulting in a come-from-behind 11-7 victory, to win the three-game MAAC series, 2-1...the last time Saint Peter's scored nine runs in a single inning was during the 2008 season, when they scored nine in the bottom of the third against Hofstra to come away with a 14-3 win on March 12th...

Peacocks Pluck Blackbirds - On Wednesday, April 3rd, the Peacocks defeated LIU-Brooklyn in their home opener, 18-8...Saint Peter's 18 runs are the most the squad has scored since the 2008 season; when they scored 20 in a five-run win over Fairleigh Dickinson on April 16th...the Peacocks scored at least one run in every inning with the exception of two... 

It Runs In The Family - Freshman John Leiter, nephew of former MLB All-Star and World Series Champion Al Leiter and of former MLB right-handed pitcher Mark Leiter, has impressed in his first season in the Peacocks' uniform…against UMES (3/02) he picked up his first career win and against NJIT (3/16) he notched his first career save…

Saint Peter's vs. the NEC – The Peacocks were scheduled to face off against an NEC member institution a total of seven times this season- marking the most games the squad has played against non-MAAC schools…Saint Peter's was originally scheduled to play seven total contests against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schools, but due to inclement weather two (vs. Coppin State) were cancelled…overall, the Peacocks are 59-112 (.342) against current NEC member institutions…Saint Peter's has a losing record against every NEC school…they have the most wins vs. FDU, who they are 17-30 against, but have the best winning percentage against LIU-Brooklyn (13-15) who they defeated 18-8 on April 3rd…

Not NEC For Long - This season marks the last year Monmouth University will participate in the Northeast Conference...the South Jersey school has accepted an invitation to join the MAAC and will begin its membership next season..

Coming To Bat – The Peacocks will close out their 11 game homestand next weekend, as they host Siena on May 11th and 12th...
