Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan defeated Saint Peter's 7-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Maggie Neiswanger (Holyoke, Mass./South Windsor) registered a goal and an assist for the Peacocks (2-12-0, 0-8-0 MAAC) while Emily Fenice (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) also added a tally and Amanda Shimkus (Cave Creek, Ariz./Cactus Shadows [Scottsdale Community College]) notched her first collegiate assist in the loss.
Aislinn Mcllvenny paced the Jaspers (5-9-1, 2-4-1 MAAC) with a hat trick. Alex Iovina added a goal and three assists while Lizzy Carlson, Daniella Morgante and Emily Ude also found the twine in the winning effort.
The two teams battled to a 1-all draw after the first half before Manhattan posted five goals in the final frame to earn its 16th-straight win in the series.
Mcllevenny broke the 1-all standstill at the 54:24 mark when she found the back of the net off an Iovine helper. She then increased the advantage to two goals when she added her second tally of the game three minutes and five seconds later off a feeder from Kaelyn Angelo for a 3-1 margin.
After Carlson found the twine off a Martine Diamond helper at 63:04, Mcllevenny completed the hat trick at 65:20 after taking a pass from Iovine for a 5-1 Jaspers lead.
Neiswanger halted the four-goal run when she notched her second marker of the season off a feeder from Shimkus at 69:15.
Morgante scored off Iovine's third assist of the night at 72:46 and Ude sealed the victory with an unassisted tally with 23 seconds remaining for a 7-2 decision.
Manhattan got off to a fast start in the game after Iovine scored off an Erica Modena assist 22 seconds into the match for a 1-0 edge.
Fenice answered for the Peacocks in the 14th minute after she posted her third goal of the season and third tally in the last four games off a pass from Neiswanger at 13:59. The game remained deadlocked until the 55th minute when the Jaspers scored six of the final seven goals in the match.
Kelsey Roberts (Meridan, Idaho/Mountain View) made her first collegiate start in goal and made four saves in 63:04 of action while Molly O'Halloran (Colonia, N.J./Union Catholic Regional) made one save in the final 26:56 for Saint Peter's. Maria Sanzari turned away four shots for Manhattan.
The Peacocks return to action in one week at home against Monmouth. Match time is 3 p.m. Prior to the game, Saint Peter's will honor its 2013 senior class.
