Recap:
The Saint Peter's College (11-18, 4-1 MAAC) baseball team won its third consecutive game Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over the Marist College Red Foxes (7-16, 2-4 MAAC). The Peacocks scored one run in the fourth and five in the following inning to establish a lead they would never surrender. Zach Hopf pitched eight innings and limited the Red Foxes to two hits without allowing an earned run. Saint Peter's has now won seven of their last eight games, and nine of their last eleven.
After three scoreless innings for both teams, the Peacocks got on the board first in the fourth on an RBI base hit to left field by Brian Koster to score Chris Grimes who singled on earlier in the frame.
Saint Peter's added four more markers in the next inning on three hits. Alberto Rodriguez led off with a single to right center and advanced to second on a ground out by Preston Aldridge. A double by Justyn Carter scored Rodriguez to put SPC up 2-0. With the bases loaded, Brian Schroeder would connect on a three 3 RBI base hit to extend the lead to 5-0.
The Red Foxes managed to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth, both unearned, but were unable to threaten again for the remainder of the contest.
Dom Macaluso entered the game in the ninth with a runner on first and recorded three consecutive outs to earn his third save of the season.
Schroeder led the Peacocks going 1-3 with 3 RBI and a walk, while Russ Stupienski scored two runs.
Saint Peter's concludes their three game series against Marist on Saturday with a double-header scheduled to start at 12pm.
