Women's Basketball Edged By Saints

Despite having four players finish in double-figures, the Saint Peter's College women's basketball team was defeated by the Siena Saints, 61-59, Thursday evening. The game featured 10 tied scores and 12 lead changes. Kaydine Bent led Saint Peter's in scoring with 15 points, while Aminah Davis and Jynae Judson each contributed 14 points in the loss. Quiana Porter added 10 points and 8 rebounds for the Peahens. Saint Peter's is now 2-22, 2-11 MAAC, while Siena improves to 8-14, 6-7 MAAC.

After falling behind 7-2 in the first three and a half minutes of the game, the Peahens formed a 6-2 run to get within one point at 9-8 (12:16).

An offensive rebound and put-back by Kaydine Bent at 10:16 tied the game at 12-12. On the next play, Judson would convert a fast-break layup off the feed from Aziza May to give the Peahens their first lead, 14-12, with 9:10 left in the half.

Saint Peter's led by as many as three points on three separate occasions, until a trey by Siena's Kelsey Booth tied the score (22-22) with under four minutes to play in the frame.

Jynae Judson drained a three-ball on the other end to regain a one-point advantage, but that would be the last basket made by the Peahens for the remainder of the half. Siena closed out the stanza on a 5-0 run to head into the break with a 29-25 advantage.

For the half, Saint Peter's shot 43.5% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range while Siena shot 35.7% and 50%, respectively. Jynae Judson led SPC with 9 points, 4 rebounds. Siena's Clara Sole Anglada was in double-figures with 10 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.

The Saints extended their lead to seven points (34-27) less than three minutes into the second half, following a three by Sole Anglada.

Minutes later, Kaydine Bent scored six consecutive points for the Peahens to bring the hosts within one at 36-35. In the thirteenth minute, Saint Peter's tied the game at 38-38, but the Saints responded with a 4-0 spurt to regain separation at 42-38.

SPC managed to take their first lead (43-42) since the 2:43 mark of the first half, after back-to-back buckets by Judson and Quiana Porter at the 12:05 mark. 

Six tied scores took place in the remainder of the half, but the Peahens maintained a lead until 1:17, when the visitors established a one point lead (58-57) after Sole Anglada went 2-2 from the line. Siena led by as many as 3 in the final thirty-nine seconds.

Aminah Davis connected on a jumper in the paint with twenty-six seconds left to bring the Peahens within one, but Saint Peter's committed a turnover in their final possession to finalize the 61-59 victory for Siena.

Overall, the Peahens shot 44.9% from the field, 22.2% from three and 76.5% from the free-throw line. Siena finished shooting 37.5% from the floor, 46.2% from beyond the arc and 76.0% from the charity stripe.

Both teams committed 22 turnovers in the game, and SPC out-rebounded the Saints, 32-30.

Kaydine Bent's 15 points and 7 rebounds both tied her career high, while Aminah Davis's 14 points were a career best. Aziza May finished with a game/season high 7 assists.

Lily Grenci led the Saints with 18 points and Clara Sole Anglada finished with a double-double of 17 points, 12 rebounds.

The Peahens continue their three-game homestand, as they host Canisius on Sunday at 2pm.
