Box Score A 14-2 run by the visitors in the last four minutes of the first half gave the Lady Pirates a double-digit advantage they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest, en route to a 62-40 defeat for the Saint Peter's University. The Peacocks kept it a one-possession game for the majority of the opening frame, until Hampton went on their tear to head into the half-time break in front 33-22. Saint Peter's was outscored 29-18 in the second half.
With the loss, Saint Peter's falls to 0-10, while Hampton improves to 9-5.
The Peacocks were led by Kaydine Bent and Aziza May, who each contributed 10 points in the loss. Kristal Edwards recorded 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals.
Despite starting the scoring on a jumper in the paint by Antonia Smith, the Peacocks proceeded to fall behind by as many as four (7-3), before Kaydine Bent converted a lay up to make the score 7-5 heading into the first media timeout.
A 6-2 run over the following two and a half minutes however, gave Saint Peter's their first lead of the contest (11-9) at 13:02.
The Peacocks stayed within three points, until Hampton put together a 6-1 run to jump in front 17-12. The visitors maintained their advantage until a jumper in the lane by Bent put the Peacocks in front 18-17 in the fifth minute.
Three lead changes would occur, before the Lady Pirates went on an 8-0 run to go ahead 27-20 (2:39). A put-back layup off the offensive board by Bent put the Peacocks on the board to break the three-minute scoring drought.
A baseline jumper at the buzzer by JoNiquia Guilford sent Hampton into the half-time break with an eleven-point advantage (33-22).
For the half, the Peacocks shot 36%, while the visitors shot 36.4%. The Peacocks were paced by Kaydine Bent's 8 points.
Hampton established a fourteen-point lead, their largest up until that point, at the sixteen-minute mark to force a Peacock time-out. Saint Peter's trailed by as many as 24 points (5:11), following a made free throw by Kenia Cole.
Overall, Saint Peter's shot 27.3% from the floor, 7.7% from three-point range and 69.2% from the line. The Lady Pirates shot 38.7%, 22.2% and 83.3%, respectively.
The Peacocks were out-rebounded by a 44-37 margin and committed 23 turnovers while forcing 19.
Almost half of the visitors' points came off of Peacock turnovers (29).
Three players finished in double-figures for Hampton; Keiara Avant (14), Alyssa Bennett (13) and Nicole Hamilton (10).
Saint Peter's returns to action this Saturday, as they face La Salle University on the road.
