The Saint Peter's University volleyball team (1-27, 0-14 MAAC) was swept by Marist College (9-15, 5-9 MAAC) this afternoon by the scores of 23-25, 18-25, 16-25.
The Peacocks nearly came out with a first set victory keeping close throughout the entire frame and eventually tying the score at 21-21. Consecutive unforced errors proved costly however, and gave the hosts a 23-21 advantage. Saint Peter's would be unable to come back as Becca Jones recorded two straight kills to give the Red Foxes the win.
Despite the loss, the Peacocks managed to out-hit Marist, recording a .250 hitting percentage to the hosts' .196 clip.
Saint Peter's could not maintain their offensive prowess in the following set, finishing with a match-low .105%. They did however have a chance to nab a set two win, leading by two points (9-7) until the Red Foxes formed an 8-2 run to establish a 15-11 advantage. Saint Peter's came within three on two separate occasions before Marist closed out the set on a 7-1 run.
Marist began the final stanza with a commanding 7-1 lead and never looked back. The hosts finished the set with a .333% hitting percentage, paced by four kills from Mackenzie Stephens.
Both Lauren Behrens and Laura Reinhart recorded 9 kills in the match for Saint Peter's. Kassi Wirth put down 8 kills on 17 attacks, good for a .353 attack percentage. Wirth and Behrens each added 4 block assists as well.
Kristina Baehr recorded a double-double of 27 assists, 15 digs.
Saint Peter's returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a 2pm match at Siena College.
