Joe Chojnacki

Joe Chojnacki was promoted to women's volleyball head coach in August 2020. He joined Saint Peter's in June 2019 as interim head coach.

In the 2022-23 season, the Peacocks went 1-31. Additionally, the program received an USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the second consecutive year.

In 2020-21, Chojnacki and the Peacocks endured the hardships of losing the entire season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the program not taking the court to compete, the program still benefited from their academic success, earing the 2021 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award and placing eight student-athletes to the MAAC All-Academic Team.

During the 2019 season, he guided the Peacocks to a 3-27 overall record and 1-17 MAAC mark. Chojnacki’s squad had 10 student-athletes placed on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll and nine student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
 
Prior to being named interim head coach, Chojnacki served as an assistant coach at New York Institute of Technology. Serving as the leader of the NYIT defense, the team ranked first in their conference in digs and digs per set, while also coaching the team’s starting libero to the Conference Libero of the Year and AVCA East Rookie of the Year honors. From 2015-2017, Chojnacki was a volunteer assistant at St. John’s, working primarily with the liberos and defensive specialist.
 
Chojnacki gained prior head coaching experience, leading Aldephi from 2003-06. He led the Panthers to two conference tournaments in his three seasons at Adelphi. He began his time at Adelphi as an assistant coach in 2000. Following his time at Adelphi, Chojnacki was an assistant coach for Fordham from 2006-07. His coaching career began in 1997 when he was an assistant for the Kellenberg Memorial High School boys’ varsity team until 2000. During that time, he also served as an assistant for the girls’ junior varsity team.
 
Since 2007, Chojnacki has worked at CNN as a Studio Operator, where he has won two Peabody Awards and the Community Impact Award. During his time at CNN, he stayed connected to volleyball, serving as a play-by-play announcer and color analyst for various networks and he also worked volleyball camps at Hofstra, St. John’s, and Columbia.

Chojnacki graduated from the University of Scranton in 1997 with a degree in communications and a minor in coaching. He received a master's in sports management from Adelphi University in 2008. 

Chojnacki lives in Rockville Centre, NY with his wife Jean. He is also a volunteer firefighter with the East Rockaway Fire Department and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
