Box Score NIAGARA FALLS, NY– The Saint Peter's softball team (7-32, 3-18 MAAC) fell 5-3 and 4-2 to Niagara (3-28, 2-16 MAAC) in a Friday afternoon doubleheader at Niagara Softball Field.
Morgan Lipansky got the start in the circle in game one, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out four.
Gabriella Rivera (1-4) came on in relief and was credited with the loss, giving up three earned runs on seven hits.
The offense tallied six hits in the opener, with
Angelina Wagner pacing the Peacocks with a 2-for-3 effort, adding an RBI and a double.
In the nightcap,
Brielle Coppola (1-11) took the loss, pitching a complete game while allowing four earned runs on four hits, with five walks and two strikeouts.
The Peacocks recorded six hits in game two, two more than Niagara, with A
ngela Tremarco leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance.
Carlee Charles added her third home run of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Both teams were retired in order through the first two innings. Saint Peter's broke through in the fourth, as
Kiana Kadena Matsuda reached on an error and moved to second on a passed ball before
Carlee Charles singled through the left side to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead.
Niagara responded in the bottom half with back-to-back solo home runs to take a 2-1 lead, then added another run in the fifth on a two-out double and single to go up 3-1.
The Peacocks evened the score in the sixth. Kadena Matsuda reached on an error and Charles drew a walk before
Angela Tremarco delivered a two-out RBI single.
Angelina Wagner followed with a double to left-center to tie the game at 3-3.
Niagara answered in the bottom of the inning, using a leadoff double and single to set up a two-out, two-run single to take a 5-3 lead.
Saint Peter's was retired in order in the seventh, as Niagara secured the win.
GAME TWO
Niagara opened the scoring in the first, capitalizing on a pair of walks and a two-run single to take a 2-0 lead. A single and a fielder's choice later in the inning extended the advantage to 3-0.
The Purple Eagles added another run in the third on a leadoff walk and a single to push the lead to 4-0.
Carlee Charles got the Peacocks on the board in the fourth with a solo home run to right-center, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Saint Peter's added another run in the sixth. Pinch hitter
Bella Nutting led off with a single, and
Paige Seemon laid down a bunt to move her to third.
Olivia Christopher followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
The Peacocks threatened in the seventh with back-to-back one-out walks, but a groundout and flyout ended the game, completing the sweep for Niagara.
