Peacocks Set for 2026 Outdoor Metropolitan Championships

RANDALLS ISLAND, NY– The Saint Peter's track and field teams gear up for the 2026 Outdoor Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island in New York on Friday, April 3. The first events begin at 11 a.m., with the women's 3000m steeplechase on the track and the men's hammer throw opening the field events.

LAST TIME OUT
Alia Moreira opened her collegiate career at the Peacock Invitational, claiming first place in the discus with a mark of 36.52m and becoming the only athlete in the field to surpass the 110-foot mark.

On the track, Karilynn Jimenez blazed to gold in the 100m, finishing ahead of FDU's Sianna Lloyd with a time of 13.13.

On the men's side, Amari Campbell continued his long jump dominance, claiming first with a mark of 7.14m and currently sitting atop the MAAC standings. Johan Aparicio also took home gold in the 800m–his first individual outdoor victory–with a time of 2:11.79.

At Monmouth's Home Opener, the Peacocks combined for six podium finishes, highlighted by Cashieve Blair blazing to gold in the 200m. Blair smashed the outdoor school record and became the first Peacock in program history to break the 21-second barrier with a time of 20.98. His performance earned him MAAC Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Jimenez also captured her second 100m victory of the week, crossing the finish line in 12.53.

PREVIEWING SOME OF THE COMPETITION
Manhattan

Manhattan has competed in two meets so far this outdoor season, the University of Miami's Hurricane Invitational and Ramapo College's Track and Field Invitational.

At the Hurricane Invitational, Manhattan combined for 10 podium placements. Junior Julia Hendricks set a personal record of 4:37.60 and claimed victory in the 1500m, while senior Kylie Conroy finished second with a time of 4:41.52. On the men's side, sophomore Thomas Bonsignore posted a time of 55.15 to place second in the 400m hurdles.

During Ramapo's T&F Invitational, the Jaspers totaled six podium finishes, highlighted by sophomore Thea Dahl, who claimed second place with a distance of 56.70m in the women's hammer throw. On the men's side, sophomore Joshua Mingoia paced the Jaspers with a third-place finish in the 1500m in 4:05.96.

St. John's
St. John's has competed in two meets this outdoor season, the USF Alumni Invitational and their home opener, The Big Hurt.

At USF, the Red Storm secured two wins and six top-10 finishes, highlighted by Naiara Garcia-Moreno's 800m and 1500m double gold performance. In the field, Cassandra Lemus-Sodji placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.15m (20 feet, 2.25 inches).

During St. John's home opener, the team earned six event wins and 10 top-five finishes. Junior Attoya Harvey highlighted the day by setting a meet record in the 1,500m run, crossing the line in 4:50.30.

Ava Mabry-Spencer secured the top time in the women's 100m, finishing in 14.98. The Johnnies dominated the event, claiming the top four spots, as Delicia Bent, Jayla Criss, and Tatiana Camilo finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.

Fordham
Fordham has competed in three meets to kick off the outdoor season: the Army West Point Open, the Raleigh Relays, and the Rider 5-Way Invitational.

At Army, Sam Freeman was the lone individual winner for the men, earning the top spot in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 21.44 seconds. Liam Volz took second in the 100-meter dash in 11.11 seconds, while Menzel Thomas finished third in the event in 11.11.

On the women's side, the Rams posted three event wins, with Alexandra Williams winning the 200-meter dash in 25.12 seconds. In the field, Sarah Cooley recorded personal-best throws in the shot put (11.92m) and the hammer throw (41.45m).

During the Raleigh Relays, Sam Freeman finished 21st overall in the men's 400m with a personal-best time of 47.64, while Alexandra Williams placed 32nd in the women's 400m in 55.89.

At Rider, Liam Volz (11.15) and Will Spierdowis (1:58.15) both finished third in their respective events in the 100m and 800m for the men. The women were led by Nicole Lytle, who took fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.13 seconds and posted a personal-best time of 26.12 in the 200m.

LAST YEAR AT METS
Thrower Ciara Brown led the way last year, bringing home the only gold medal for the Peacocks in the shot put with a mark of 11.85m.

Karilynn Jimenez finished third overall in the 100m finals with a time of 12.52. Shania McDuffie also qualified for the finals, finishing second in her preliminary heat (12.42) before placing fourth in the finals with a personal-best time of 12.52.

The women's team placed sixth out of 12 teams, with the throwing squad pacing the team. St. John's won the team title, followed by Fordham and Columbia.

The men's 4x100m relay team of Ameen Zubair, Omari Owens-Jones, Dylan Williams, and Delano Gooden placed second with a time of 41.40, just .08 seconds behind Fordham.

Ajani Peck-Wekunda represented Saint Peter's in the 400m, finishing third overall in his Mets debut in 49.70. Connor Ziolkowski also recorded a personal best in the men's 400m hurdles, clocking 55.23 to finish second.

The men's team also placed sixth out of 11 teams. Fordham claimed the men's title, followed by Manhattan and NYU.
