JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's softball team secured a doubleheader split with Mount St. Mary's at Jaroschak Field on Tuesday while honoring 'Morgan's Message' and raising awareness for mental health. The Peacocks took the first game, 6-1, before ultimately falling in the second game, 4-7.
The Peacocks (13-32, 4-19 MAAC) earned a dominant victory over the Mountaineers (10-38, 5-21 MAAC) in the first game before almost pulling off a late comeback in the second matchup.

Dakota Pitts who each had two. Turner and Pitts combined for five RBIs while Pitts hit the only double in the game for SPU.
In game two,

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: The Peacocks and Mountaineers jumped out to a slow start as neither team scored a run until the third inning. Saint Peter's got on the board first in the bottom of the third with three runs. Pitts hit a double to left center with the bases loaded to advance all three runners home.
The Peacocks made it 4-0 after Forte was walked in the fourth inning with the bases loaded once again. Shortly after in the bottom of the fourth, Turner singled to shortstop which helped Montgomery and Christopher to score.
Saint Peter's held a 6-0 lead going into the seventh and it proved to be too much for the Mountaineers to come back from as they only scored one run in their final at bats.
GAME TWO: Saint Peter's went down, 0-2, early in the game after the Mountaineers scored two runs in the opening inning. There was then no more scoring until the top of the fourth when Mount St. Mary's tacked on three more runs for a 5-0 lead.
It was in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Peacocks started to make a comeback. Saint Peter's managed to score four runs, coming within one, after
Steph Bendzlowicz,
Carlee Charles, Czerwinski and Christopher all made it to home plate.
Facing a 4-5 deficit heading into the seventh inning, Saint Peter's had a real chance to complete the comeback. However, the Mountaineers scored two more runs on a throwing error that helped them to pull away from the Peacocks.
Saint Peter's was unable to overcome the deficit after three straight outs to the bottom of the Peacocks' batting order.
