JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team will look to put an end to its losing streak on Friday night when it takes on Fairfield at Run Baby Run Arena at 7 p.m. ET.
The Peacocks (7-13, 2-10 MAAC) have struggled as of late, coming off a tough one-point overtime loss at Manhattan last Saturday, however they'll try to regain their footing against the Stags (9-15, 5-8 MAAC) who are three games ahead of them in the conference standings.
With just eight games remaining on the schedule, Saint Peter's could use a huge win at home on Friday to help break into the top-10 in the conference. This season, only the top-10 teams in the MAAC will travel to Atlantic City, N.J. to fight for the conference title as well as an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Against Fairfield, the Peacocks hope to break their winning drought while picking up their first conference win at home this season. The last time these two teams met was in last year's MAAC Tournament Championship where Saint Peter's won 68-63 to go dancing in March.
ABOUT THE STAGS
The Stags are in a three-way tie for ninth place in the MAAC and are coming off a 71-77 defeat to Sacred Heart at home. Fairfield's five conference wins have come against Rider, Iona, Niagara, Manhattan and Marist.
Fairfield is led by junior guard Prophet Johnson who averages 11.2 points and seven rebounds per game. His seven boards a game rank fifth in the MAAC. Deon Perry and Jamie Bergens have also been crucial for the Stags, as they both average over nine points and two assists per contest.
Fairfield is coached by Chris Casey who is in his first season as the head coach of the Stags.
