RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team (4-8-2, 2-5-1 MAAC) finished in a 1-1 tie against Manhattan (4-7-3, 3-3-2 MAAC) on the road at Gaelic Park on Wednesday. The Peacocks earned a point with the tie to stay in playoff contention down the stretch.
The Peacocks dominated the shots category, outshooting the Jaspers 15-to-8. They also totaled five corner kicks compared to Manhattan's two.
After a scoreless first half, Saint Peter's wasted no time getting on the board in the second as
Connall McErlain put one in the back of the net in the 47th minute. He was assisted by
Leo Coval and
Adam Holt to give the Peacocks the lead.
SPU stayed strong after the goal, even after the Jaspers had several scoring opportunities. McErlain had a look to put the Peacocks up by two, but his shot went high.
In the 73rd minute, Manhattan tied things up at 1-1 with a wild header goal off a crazy bounce. Saint Peter's responded well as
Omre Etienne had a shot on goal that was saved by the Jaspers' goalkeeper, but continued the good looks for the Peacocks.
Several cards were given out down the stretch, but neither team could record a goal as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
