NEWARK, NJ–The Saint Peter's men's swimming team wrapped up day two of the NJIT Invite, finishing fourth out of four teams. Host NJIT claimed the meet title with 1,121 points, followed by Howard (859.5) and Villanova (849.5). The Peacocks rounded out the standings with 382 points.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman
Patch Robinson led the Peacocks in the 400-yard individual medley, placing 12th in a field of 19 swimmers with a time of 4:19.44. Villanova swept the top three spots in Max Kunisaki (4:00.10), Max Christensen (4:01.70), and Carter Gary (4:03.88).
Victor Fuentes earned a top ten finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing seventh out of 12 athletes in 59.49. The event's top seven swimmers all broke the one-minute mark, with Villanova freshman Hugh Borris winning in 56.27. Teammate Wade Weston finished second (57.05), while Howard's Kaleb James earned third (58.70).
In the 400-yard medley relay, two Saint Peter's squads took to the pool. The A relay —
Juan Nunez, Victor Fuentes, Tristan Raso, and
Robinson — finished eighth overall with a time of 3:33.16. NJIT's A squad claimed first with a mark of 1:32.72, Villanova's A squad finished second (3:24.57), with Howard's A squad rounding out the top three (3:24.83).
The SPU B relay —
Austin Carducci, Ean Vellescig, Taj Seton-Martin, and
Jeff Thompson — recorded a final time of 3:47.46.
Nunez continued his strong weekend with a top-five showing in the 1650-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 16:39.73. Robinson added a seventh-place finish in 16:50.86. Villanova claimed the top two spots, led by Owen Nye (16:02.33) and Patrick Casey (16:10.43), followed by NJIT's Keegan Wooding (16:19.82).
Ean Vellescig placed tenth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.13), while Raso led the Peacocks in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing seventh in 2:01.49. NJIT's Mohamed Abdelaziz won the event in 1:50.32.
