JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team (17-13, 12-8 MAAC) takes on Quinnipiac (24-8, 15-5 MAAC) at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in the 2024 Hercules Tires MAAC Championship Tournament Semifinals. The game tips off at 6:30 PM and will be nationally televised on ESPNews.
Overview
The Peacocks square off with the Regular Season MAAC Champions for a spot in the MAAC Tournament Championship.
The No. 1 seed Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated Canisius 76-52 in the MAAC Quarterfinal round on Wednesday, Mar. 13. QU's Paul Otieno led the Bobcats with a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds.
QU guard Matt Balanc was named the MAAC Player of the Year. Balanc averages a team-high 18.3 points per game. This is the second straight year the Bobcats have made the MAAC Tournament Semifinals.
On Thursday the Peacocks pulled out a 50-48 victory over Rider in the MAAC Quarterfinals. Michael Houge scored a season-high 20 points with eight rebounds. Marcus Randolph shot 3-5 from beyond the arc and added 10 points. It was the ninth game Houge has scored in double figures this season. Saint Peter's had nine blocks and never trailed in the game.
This is the fifth straight season that Saint Peter's has made the MAAC Tournament Semifinal round.
Corey Washington
Washington made the All-MAAC First Team on Monday. The SPU sophomore had a breakout season for the Peacocks. Washington leads the Peacocks in scoring with 16.8 points per game and rebounding (6.4 rpg). The SPU standout has scored 20+ points in nine games and tallied four double-doubles on the year. The last Saint Peter's Men's Basketball player to make the All-MAAC First Team was KC Ndefo for the 2021-22 season.
Latrell Reid
Reid was awarded the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. The New Jersey native averaged 11.4 ppg, 4.2 rebounds per game (third in the MAAC). Reid started in every game for the Peacocks this season and tallied two double-doubles. This marks the fourth year out of the last five that a Saint Peter's student-athlete has been named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Ndefo won the award three consecutive times (2020-2022).
