Box Score 2 SALISBURY, MD. - The Saint Peter's Softball team swept the University of Maryland Eastern Shores in a doubleheader at the Henry S. Athletic Complex. The Peacocks improved to 3-3 on the season.
Game One Saint Peter's - 5 | UMES - 1
Kristen Brennan pitched and picked up her first win of the season. Brennan pitched a complete game and gave up three hits, zero earned runs, with three strikeouts. At the plate, Sydney Orndorff went 2-4 with two RBIs.
The Peacocks scored three runs in the top of the second inning. Jess Forte started off the inning with a triple. Maiah Skakal delivered an RBI triple, which scored Forte from third. Skakal scored on an RBI single from Kayla Talbert. Talbert stole second base, and Sydney Orndorf smacked an RBI single, which extended the Peacock's lead to 3-0.
In the top of the fourth, Orndorff tacked on a run with an RBI single. Saint Peter's added one more in the top of the seventh. SPU senior Kaitlynn Peters started the inning with a double. Dakota Pitts hit an RBI single, which built SPU's lead to 5-1.
Game Two Saint Peter's - 11 | UMES - 7 Box Score
With the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, Zailees Seda walked, which brought in Orndorff from third. The Peacocks scored two runs in the second inning. Orndorff walked followed by Isabella Chugranis. A throwing error from UMES scored Orndorff and a RBI single from Cara McNulty scored Chugranis. In the top of the fourth inning, Orndorff hit an RBI single, which extended SPU's lead to 4-1.
The Hawks tied up the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Peacocks exploded for four runs in the top of the fifth. Angelina Wagner hit an RBI double, which brought in Forte and Talbert. Kaitlynn Peters brought in a run, and Orndorff hit an RBI triple, which scored Wagner. The Peacocks led 8-4.
In the top of the sixth inning, Pitts hit a triple, followed by an RBI single from Forte. Forte would score on a fielder's choice, which built SPU's lead to 10-4. The Peacocks added another run at the top of the seventh and closed the game at 11-7.
Orndorff and Wagner each went 2-4 with two RBIs.
Next, SPU travels to Central Connecticut State for a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 25.
