JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team hosts Siena on 'Beer Night' at Run Baby Run Arena on Friday, Feb. 16. Additionally, Saint Peter's President Gene Cornacchia will be honored at halftime. Beer will be sold in the Peacock Cafe from 5:30-7:00 p.m. and limited edition Gene Cornacchia bobbleheads will be available for purchase in honor of President Cornacchia's 43 years of service to Saint Peter's culminating in June.
Overview
The Peacocks (11-11) are sixth in the MAAC standings with a 7-6 record in conference play. Siena (4-20, 3-10 MAAC) is tenth. The Saints snapped a seven game losing streak in their most recent game. Siena defeated Manhattan (5-17, 2-11 MAAC) on Saturday, Feb. 10. Michael Eley led the Saints with 24 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks.
Saint Peter's is ranked 21st in the nation in scoring defense. The Peacocks have held opponents to 64.6 points per game this season. Brent Bland leads the Peacocks in steals (35), and Mouhamed Sow has grabbed a team-high 106 rebounds this season.
This is the second contest between these two programs this season. Saint Peter's took down Siena 63-52 in Albany on Jan. 28. Latrell Reid scored a career-high 21 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Reid has scored in double figures in 16 games and has distributed a team-high 90 assists this season. Reid's 4.1 assists per game is fourth in the MAAC.
Roy Clarke has increased offensive production over the last month. Clarke has scored 20+ points in two of the last four games for the Peacocks. The SPU guard is averaging 15.7 points per game, 4.25 rebounds, per game, and two assists per game in February.
Siena redshirt junior Sean Durugordon leads the Saint in points and rebounds. Durugordan is averaging 20.5 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. Durugordan and Eley did not play in the first game between these teams on Jan. 28.
