Marcus Randolph netted a career-high 29 points but the Peacocks fell short 72-63 to Iona University in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest.
The Peacocks fall to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC while the Gaels improve to 3-8 and 1-1 in conference play.
A tight first half of action with multiple lead changes over the first 15 minutes saw the Peacocks hold a 21-19 lead with 5:40 to play. Iona closed the half on a 13-2 run to take a 32-23 lead at halftime.
Iona pushed their lead into double digits in the second half but the Peacocks closed the gap to as close as six points at 54-48 with 5:42 left in the game. The Gaels answered with four consecutive points and maintained their lead the rest of the way.
Randolph led the way, setting a new career-high with 29 points, shooting 4-for-9 from downtown and 11-of-13 at the free throw line to pace the Peacock offense. Sophomore
Armoni Zeigler added 11 points and six rebounds.
The Peacocks have a 12-day break before they host the University of Delaware on Friday, December 20 in Run Baby Run Arena for a 7 pm tip. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
