Overview
SPU had its six game win streak snapped at Fairfield 76-67 on Friday, Jan. 19. It was the first loss for Saint Peter's in 42 days. Canisius fell 70-58 at Iona on Friday, Jan. 19. The Griffins are ninth in the MAAC standings with two wins in conference play this season.
The Peacocks are currently second in the MAAC standings under Quinnipiac(13-4, 5-1 MAAC). Corey Washington leads Saint Peter's in scoring and is sixth in the MAAC with 14 points per game. The preseason all-MAAC honoree has shot 56.2% from the field, 50% from three-point range and has averaged 19.5 points per game in January. Latrell Reid has distributed a team high 64 assists this season (4.3 per game) which is fourth in the MAAC. Additionally Reid has scored 10+ points in 11 games this season.
Defensively the Peacocks are second in the MAAC. Saint Peter's has held opponents to 64.6 points per game. On the boards, Saint Peter's is third in the MAAC in offensive rebounds (12.3 per game) and rebounding margin (3.4). SPU is 8-2 this season when they've held opponents to under 70 points.
Canisius is fourth in the conference in total offense (73.9 points per game). The Griffins have two top-ten scorers in the MAAC with Tre Dinkins at fourth (15.4 points per game) and Siem Uijtendaal at ninth (13.8 points per game). On the glass, Canisius is headlined by Frank Mitchell. Mitchell leads the MAAC in rebounding with 10.4 rebounds per game and in field goal percentage (.597).

In the first meeting between these two teams on Sunday, Dec. 3, Saint Peter's edged out the Griffins 54-52 on the road. SPU was up 45-30 after a 15-0 run in the second half. The Griffins made a late push down the wire and cut the deficit 52-49. A pair of free throws from Roy Clarke extended the Saint Peter's lead to 54-49 with 58 seconds left. Canisius made a late push with a three-pointer from Dinkins at 48 seconds. The Griffins missed a layup in the game's final moments which sealed the 54-52 victory. Reid led the Peacocks offensively with 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Mitchell led the Griffins with a game-high 16 points. The junior shot 6-10 from the field.
