JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team (8-5, 4-0 MAAC) looks to extend its winning streak to six when it travels to Draddy Gymnasium for a game against Manhattan (4-10, 1-4 MAAC) on Sunday, Jan. 14. The game tips-off at 2 PM and will be on ESPN+.
The Peacocks are off to their best start in conference play since the 2003-04 season. During their winning-streak they've defeated UMBC (Dec. 12), Kean (Dec. 22), Bucknell (Dec. 30), Iona (Jan. 5), and Mount St. Mary's (Jan. 7).
In Saint Peter's 70-64 win over Mount St. Mary's at Run Baby Run Arena, Corey Washington scored a team-high 25 points, with two rebounds, and two steals. Washington shot an efficient 10/16 from the field (62%) and 2/4 from three-point range (50%). SPU senior Stephon Roberts scored a season-high 11 points. Roberts went 3-3 from the field, 4-4 from the line and 1-1 from three-point range. Additionally, Latrell Reid dropped 13 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds with five assists and two steals. SPU moved to 2-1 all-time versus Mount St. Mary's.
The Peacocks currently sit atop the MAAC standings and are second in the MAAC in defense. SPU has held opponents to 63.5 points per game. On the glass, the Peacocks are third in the MAAC in offensive rebounds (12.8 per game) and rebounding margin (4.5).
Washington leads Saint Peter's with 13.5 points per game. The preseason all-MAAC honoree is eighth in the MAAC in scoring . The SPU sophomore has scored 20+ points in four games this season. In the month of January, Washington has shot 51.2% from the field, 75% from three-point range, and has averaged 22.5 points per game.
Reid is averaging a team-high 3.85 assists per game. Defensively, Roberts is 12th in MAAC in blocked shots with 10. Brent Bland is ninth in steals with 23 this season.
On Friday, Jan. 12, Manhattan was defeated by Rider 71-58. The Jaspers had three players in double figures. Daniel Rouzan scored a team-high 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Shaquil Bender had 15 points and seven rebounds and Jaden Winston tacked on 12 points, six assists, and three steals. The Jaspers are fourth in the MAAC in three-pointers made (7.4 per game). Rouzan ranks 12th in field goal percentage (.519). The Manhattan sophomore is shooting over 50% from the field this season. Shaquil Bender is sixth in three-point percentage (38%), and Jaden Winston is third in the MAAC in assists per game (4.4 assists per game).
