JERSEY CITY, NJ. - Saint Peter's men's basketball opens the 2023-24 season against Seton Hall at the Prudential Center. The Peacocks begin their second season under head coach Bashir Mason.
Last Season
SPU is coming off a 14-18 (7-13 MAAC) season last year. In the MAAC Tournament, the Peacocks became the first 10-seed to advance to the semi-finals after they knocked off Fairfield (Mar. 7) and Rider (Mar. 8) in Atlantic City. Defensively, Saint Peter's finished the year first in MAAC Scoring Defense (65.5 PPG).
SPU sophomore Corey Washington was voted to the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team. Washington made an immediate impact for the Peacocks last season as a freshman. The Arkansas native averaged 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds as he was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
Additionally, Saint Peter's faces former head coach Shaheen Holloway. Holloway led the Peacocks on their historic March Madness run in 2022 to the Elite Eight that featured wins over #2 Kentucky, #7 Murray State and #3 Purdue.
New Faces
The Saint Peter's coaching staff brought in eight new players, which includes seven transfers. These players are Marcus Randolph (University of Richmond), Roy Clarke (University of St. Francis Brooklyn), Elijah Perkins (Austin Peay State), Stephon Roberts (Virginia State University), Michael Houge (Walters State), Elijah Wood (Colby Community College), Jaheim Tanksley (Moberly Area Community College), along with freshman Armoni Zeigler.
