Men’s Soccer Concedes Two Late Goals in Loss at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, PA- The Saint Peter's University men's soccer lost to Bucknell 2-1 on Sunday night. Sophomore defender Daniel Blackmore scored the goal for the Peacocks.

Game Notes

  • It was all Bison in the first half, as they out shot the Peacocks 9-1, including 7-1 in shots on target.
  • The Peacocks lone first half shot resulted in a goal from Blackmore in the 19th minute. He got his head on a cross off of a free kick from freshman midfielder Reiss Skeen to put the Peacocks up 1-0.
  • Graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho made seven first half saves to keep Saint Peter's up 1-0 at the break.
  • After no shots for the first 15 minutes, Bucknell tested Badenes Mecho at the 65 minute mark, but he kept the attempt out.
  • Graduate defender Marco Torino had a ball deflect off of him into the Peacock net to tie the game at one in the 82nd minute.
  • Two minutes later, Bucknell scored another goal off of a free kick. They would hold on to win the game 2-1.

Inside the Numbers

  • Blackmore's goal was his first of the season and the fourth of his career.
  • Skeen's assist was his second as a Peacock.
  • The Peacocks registered four shots. Blackmore, Torino, freshman midfielder Sean Cadigan, and freshman midfielder Lex Vaughan each had one.
  • Blackmore had the only Peacock shot on target.
  • Badenes Mecho made nine saves.
  • Cadigan, Torino, and fifth year forward Matt Hoyt were issued yellow cards.

Thoughts From the Manager - Julian Richens

  • We have worked incredibly hard tonight and put a real performance in but unfortunately wasn't enough. We had some very good transition moments midway through the second half to create and possibly kill the game - we have to do a better job there of creating better chances in those situations.
  • We will regroup over the next few days and it's these games that will strive our players for a full 90 minute performance.

Up Next

  • The Peacocks return home to Jaroschak Field this Saturday, September 10th, as they play host to St. Francis Brooklyn. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
