EASTON, PA- The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team lost to Lafayette 2-1 on Tuesday night. Freshman midfielder Lex Vaughan scored his first career goal in the contest.
Game Notes
- It was a quiet start to the contest, as no team recorded a shot on target for the first thirty minutes. Graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho made the first save of the game in the 31st minute.
- Lafayette scored right before the break in the 45th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Coming out of the break, the Peacocks struck through a wonder strike from Vaughan. He hit the ball on the volley from outside the box over the goalies head to tie the game at 1-1. Freshman midfielder Reiss Skeen provided the assist.
- The Leopards responded four minutes later to retake the lead.
- Lafayette was issued a red card in the 70th minute.
- The Peacocks were unable to put another shot on target in the game, as the Leopards would hold on for the win.
Inside the Numbers
- Vaughan's goal was his first of the season.
- Skeen's assist was his fourth of the campaign.
- The Peacocks registered five shots. Skeen had two, while Vaughan, graduate defender Marco Torino, and sophomore forward Mikkel Fodstad each had one.
- Vaughan's goal was the only Peacock shot on target in the contest.
- Badenes Mecho made two saves.
- Graduate midfielder Brian Carvalhoso and junior defender Bryan Gomez were issued yellow cards.
Thoughts From the Manager - Julian Richens
- Tough result tonight against a well coached and organised team. The spirit and work ethic was there for the 90 minutes and had some chances to take something from the game.
- Good goal from Lex for his first collegiate goal.
- We quickly move on and look forward to conference games as we try to get the balance between recovery and and continuing our preparations.
