First Pitch

  • The Saint Peter's University softball team kicks off a string of eight consecutive home games this weekend with a pair of crucial MAAC doubleheaders taking on Rider University Saturday and Monmouth University Sunday.
  • The Peacocks head into the contest after a doubleheader split at Lafayette College Wednesday afternoon while the Broncs have lost four straight games while the Hawks have lost six of their last seven contests but are coming off a 6-4 win over Marist heading into the weekend.

Looking Back at Lafayette

  • Trailing 3-0 into the seventh inning of game one, the Peacocks scored 10 runs in the final two frames to pick up a 10-3 win in eight innings before falling in game two 12-5 against Lafayette.
  • Dakota Pitts was a menace at the plate as she became just the 10th player in Division I this season and the first in program history to record five hits in a single game. Overall, she finished 6 for 8 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Brandi Feeney and Sophie Wilson both had multi-hit efforts in game one combining to go 4 for 8 with two runs scored.
  • Sydney Senerchia picked up the win in the circle after allowing just three runs over 8.0 innings in a complete-game effort while striking out three.
  • Courtney Fraher came off the bench cold in the first contest and had possibly the biggest hit of the day with an RBI single to give SPU their first lead in the eighth inning.
  • Olyvia Smith had a multi-hit effort in game two going 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored.

Inside the Numbers

  • Cara McNulty is the team-leader in batting average hitting .360 and has hit safely in seven of her last eight games. She currently ranks inside the top-10 in the MAAC in average, slugging percentage, OPS, hits and RBIs.
  • Smith has also been fantastic at the plate hitting .307 while being a catalyst at the top of the lineup. Smith is the team leader in runs scored with 22 and stolen bases with seven.
  • After her fantastic day at the plate against Lafayette, Pitts is now batting .311 and is tied for fourth in the MAAC with nine doubles this season.
  • In the circle, freshman Kasidy Slusser leads the team with a 3.47 ERA in her first season in Jersey City. Her five wins are the most for an SPU pitcher since Erica Colon had five in the 2014 season.
  • As a team, the Peacocks have now hit 12 home runs this season to top their total from the entirety of the 2021 and 2020 seasons.
  • SPU will head into the doubleheader Saturday with 15 wins, the most victories since recording 22 in the 2007 season.

Up Next

  • After the weekend, the Peacocks will play host to Howard University and Fairleigh Dickinson University in a pair of doubleheaders on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Both doubleheaders will begin at 3:00 p.m.
