Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, and Men’s Soccer Take on Canisius Saturday; Volleyball Visits Niagara on Sunday

VOLLEYBALL

BUFFALO, NY – Saint Peter's women's volleyball is on the hunt for its first win when it visits Canisius and Niagara this weekend.

The Basics

Peacocks by the Numbers

• Freshman middle blocker Morgan Thurlow has been the leader on offense, tallying a team high 111 kills and 137 points.
• Freshman setter Lillian Konrad has guided the attack with 264 assists.
• Freshman middle blocker Elena Bilhartz has tallied a team-high 53 total blocks.
• Freshman Laken Dillon leads the team in digs with 164.

• Canisius comes into the match with the Peacocks 6-9 and 4-2 in MAAC play.
• This will be the 44th matchup between the Peacocks and the Golden Griffins. Canisius leads the series 33-10.
• The two teams split their two meetings last year, with each team winning 3-1 at home.
• Niagara comes into the match with the Peacocks 4-12 and 2-4 in MAAC play
• This will be the 44th matchup between the Peacocks and the Purple Eagles. Niagara leads the series 24-19.
• Niagara has won the last 14 meetings, including both a 3-0 sweep and a 3-2 win last season.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Kick Off

• The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team is back in action Saturday October 8, as the team visits Canisius
• The Peacocks are coming off a 1-0 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday at Caven Point Field.

History with the Golden Griffins

• The Peacocks and the Golden Griffins will meet for the 30th time on Saturday.
• Saint Peter's is 7-20-2 all-time against Canisius.
• The Peacocks defeated the Golden Griffins 2-0 in their last matchup on October 23, 2021 in Jersey City, NJ. Graduate defender Brooke Boutchie provided an assist in the game.

Red Alert

• Saint Peter's defeated Marist for only the sixth time in school history on Wednesday, September 28.
• The Peacocks are off to their best start in conference play since 1998, when they started MAAC play 2-1.
• Reaching three wins already this year, they have already matched their win total from the last two seasons combined.

Freshman Frenzy

• Freshman goalkeeper Olivia Mackethan has registered 47 saves through twelve games and two clean sheets.
• Freshman forward Xochilt Turijan scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Hampton on Wednesday, August 31.
• Freshman forward Taylor Moyer has two assists on the season.
• Freshman forward Gianna Grassifulli netted her first career goal against Iona on Saturday, September 17. She also has an assist.
• Freshman midfielder Alyssa Hackett has one goal and one assist this year.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Kick Off

• The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team continues conference play on Saturday afternoon as they host Canisius.
• Saint Peter's is coming off of a 4-3 loss against Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday. Sophomore defender Daniel Blackmore, sophomore forward Mikkel Fodstad, and junior forward Conlan Paventi all scored for the Peacocks. Freshman midfielder Reiss Skeen provided two assists.

Series with the Golden Griffins

• Saint Peter's will face off against Canisius for the 33rd time on Saturday.
• The Peacocks are 15-16-1 all-time against the Golden Griffins.
• The Peacocks have won four straight over Canisius.
• Saint Peter's defeated Canisius 3-1 in their last matchup on October 13, 2021 in Buffalo. Fifth year forward Matt Hoyt and junior forward Antonio Green both scored a goal in the contest. Graduate defender Brian Carvalhoso and Paventi each notched assists.

Offense Awakes

• After struggling on offense the past few games, the Peacocks erupted for three goals in their game against Mount St. Mary's.
• In the three previous games, the Peacocks only registered three shots on target.
• The Peacocks had only scored multiple goals in one game this season prior to their last contest.

Team Leaders

• Paventi, Blackmore, and Fodstad each have two goals this season. Freshman forward Lex Vaughan, freshman forward Teodor Linn, senior defender Tom Climpson, and freshman midfielder Reiss Skeen each have one goal for the Peacocks.
• Skeen has six of the eight assists recorded by Saint Peter's this season. He leads the team in points with seven. He is tied for eighth in Division I for assists.
• Fodstad and senior defender Tom Climpson have the other two assists.
• Graduate goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho has made 38 saves in ten appearances.
