LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Saint Peter's University women's volleyball team dropped Saturday's meeting at defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion, Rider University in straight sets (23-25, 16-25, 21-25).

- Saint Peter's came out firing against the defending MAAC champions, opening the game with a 10-8 lead over Rider, with kills by Alanis Alvarado (2), Lily Barnhill, and Angeleyshka Curbelo.
- Tied at 12-12, the Peacocks dropped back-to-back bombs by Alvarado and Barnhill, regaining a two-point lead in the first set.
- Midway through, Rider would lead by one point (15-14) and go ahead 22-17 over SPU late in the set.
- The visiting Peacocks would not go down easily, using a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to a single point (23-24).
- Alwen Pila got the run going with a sneak attack, notching her first kill in the match.
- Then SPU took advantage of four attack errors and a service error to end the run.
- The Broncs would get the set ending kill, taking the game 25-23 from the Peacocks.
- Despite the grit by SPU in the first game, the Peacocks never gained a lead in the second game as it was all Rider, leading to a 16-25 setback.
- Barnhill got the third set underway with a kill, followed by consecutive service aces from Alvarado, putting the Peacocks ahead 3-0.
- The lead would be short lived with Rider scoring five straight, and nine out of the next 10 points, to take a 9-4 lead.
- Trailing by six (18-12), SPU put together a 7-1 rally, to knot the set at 19-19.
- The comeback efforts would ultimately come up short for the Peacocks, dropping the game 21-25 and the match.
Inside the Numbers
- Alvarado led the Peacocks with a team-high nine kills, a pair of aces, and six digs.
- Leading the set was Wildalys Soto, posting a team-best 19 assists while adding five digs.
- Pila had the team's most successful receptions, finishing her afternoon with nine digs.
