The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team will get the 2021 season underway Thursday night as the team prepares to travel to Mount St. Mary's in its season opener.

The Peacocks are coming off of an abbreviated season which saw the team post a record of 3-3-1, qualifying for their third consecutive MAAC Tournament.

The lads will look to secure their third straight season opening win after beating Fairfield 4-3 at home in 2020 and St. Joseph's in 2019 by a score of 2-1 on the road.
Series with the Mountaineers

Saint Peter's will face off against Mount St. Mary's for the 5th meeting in the all-time series on Thursday, as both teams enter the match with an even record of 2-2 versus each other.

The Peacocks won the last meeting back in 2002 by a score of 1-0 at Mount St. Mary's.

Both of the Peacocks wins in the series came on the road; the 2002 victory and a 1-0 victory in 1999.

This will be the second time the Peacocks face the Mountaineers in a season opener, losing the first occurrence back in 2000.
Meet the Squad

Head coach Julian Richens enters his 11th season as the leader of the men's soccer program.

In 2019, he was the unanimous selection as the MAAC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year.

Marco Torino and Anton Moore are back as they will continue at Saint Peter's as graduate students.

The Peacocks will return four seniors to this year's squad. Jamie Davis returns to captain the Peacocks after providing two goals and an assist last season, while Matt Hoyt, Brian Carvalhoso and Tim Fafian complete the senior class.

The Junior class is led by defender and captain Tom Climpson. Climpson is coming off a short 2020-21 season due to COVID-19 and injury. Bernhard Bratsberg, Antonio Green, Herman Wulff, and Brian Neves complete the junior class.

Bryan Gomez is one of the returning sophomores. He appeared in two games during his freshman campaign. Matt Ellis, Conlan Paventi, and Ethan Cortes finish the sophomore class, along with redshirt sophomore Roodlenscky Charles.

The team added plenty of new faces this offseason, signing two graduate students and six freshmen. Guillem Mechó is one of the graduate students and comes by way of Santa Clara University. The other graduate student is Kevin Van Der Pol who comes via Southern Connecticut State University. The Peacocks brought in three fresh faces from the Garden State in Ricardo Vieira, Jeremy Gonzalez, and Michael Tavares. Jamie Hanson and Daniel Blackmore add to the English pipeline, hailing from Ashington and Eastbourne, England, respectively. Miguel Torres and Alex Costa round out the squad.
