FAIRFIELD, CT - The Saint Peter's University softball team returned for its second day of action at Fairfield on Saturday, playing a pair of afternoon games against the Stags. The hosts had a strong start to the day, securing a 10-0 win through five innings in Game 1. In the day's second meeting, the Peacocks and stags were tied at 1-1 through five and a half innings, but an offensive explosion from the Stags in the bottom of the sixth frame brought in seven runs, ultimately leading to Fairfield's 8-1 victory over Saint Peter's.
Game 1 Notes:
- The Stags were able to get out to a 2-0 lead after the first two innings in Game 1 on Saturday, while the Peacocks went three-and-out over the opening frames.
- Sophomore Kristen Brennan then recorded the team's first hit of the day in the top of the third, hitting a single through the middle. She would be left on base though, as the next three batters were retired.
- Fairfield extended its lead to 5-0 following the bottom of the third inning, before going ahead 10-0 after a five-run stretch in the bottom of the fourth.
- Sophomore Brandi Feeney and junior Marissa Morales were the only other Peacocks to get on base in the remaining innings, but would be left stranded.
Game 2 Notes:
- The two sides were neck-and-neck over the first three innings of Game 2, as both teams only managed two hits apiece during that time.
- Fairfield struck first in the bottom of the fourth, bringing in a runner from second base off a single through the left side.
- Saint Peter's then found the equalizer in the top of the sixth, as junior Katie Sciglimpaglia was able to bring in classmate and captain Anja Solveig Kane from second base on a single to tie the score at 1-1.
- The Stags proceeded to put up seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after multiple at-bats with bases loaded, leading to their 8-1 victory.
Inside the Numbers:
- Despite the final score of Game 2, junior pitcher Sydney Senerchia had a strong outing through the first five innings, allowing just four hits and one run from the Fairfield lineup.
- Sciglimpaglia now holds a team-leading 18 hits and 8 RBI's on the year.
- Kane finished the day earning the team's only walk of the doubleheader.
