GAME NOTES

Opening Tip
  • The Saint Peter's men's basketball squad returns to the Yanitelli Center for the regular-season finale against Iona on Friday, Mar. 6.
  • The Peacocks and Gaels will meet at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
  • Saint Peter's sits in second place, one game out of first place, with its 13-6 MAAC record following last week's trip to Western New York.
  • The men are seeking to tie the program record for most league wins in a season, looking to match the 2016-17 team which set the record of 14 MAAC victories.
  • Last time out, the Peacocks edged Canisius by one-point on Saturday, securing a top-two seed in the MAAC Championship field.
  • Quinn Taylor had the best game of his career, recording his third career double-double with a career-high 22 points and season-high 11 rebounds, shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from deep and 4-for-4 from the line, while going 8-of-11 from the field.
  • Aaron Estrada was the hero in the game, making the go-ahead layup with 34 seconds left and the game-winning free throw with 7.0 seconds remaining.

Things to Know Before the Regular-Season Finale
Series with Gaels
  • Friday's finale will be the 123rd all-time contest between Saint Peter's and Iona dating back to 1941-42.
  • The Peacocks record against the Gaels stands at 51-71.
  • When the teams met on Jan. 3 in the MAAC opener, Saint Peter's erased a 17-point second half deficit, winning 75-74 on a Daryl Banks III coast-to-coast buzzer-beating layup.
  • The win for the Peacocks snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Gaels, dating back to 2015 and the win was also the first victory for Saint Peter's at Iona in over a decade, having last won in New Rochelle on Dec. 4, 2009.
  • Additionally, 2008-09 was also the last time Saint Peter's earned a season sweep over Iona, which the Peacocks will look to complete on Friday.
Taking Down the Entire MAAC
  • The 2019-20 Saint Peter's team earned a win over every other conference school this regular season --- the first time in program history the Peacocks have achieved this feat with the current 11-team MAAC (2014-15 to present) or 10-team league (1997-98 to 2013-14).
  • This was just the third time in the 39 years of the MAAC's existence that Saint Peter's defeated every other conference team at least once, only doing it twice previously in 1981-82 and 1983-84 --- the conference was comprised of eight teams both seasons.

History in Jersey City
  • Saint Peter's 2019-20 season has been historic in Jersey City.
  • The Peacocks have won seven straight and 10 out of the last 11 in the Yanitelli Center, improving the home records to 10-3 overall and 8-1 in league games.
  • The eight MAAC home wins are a program record, surpassing the 1983-84 and 2004-05 squads which won seven MAAC home games, respectively.
  • The 10 overall home wins are the most by a Saint Peter's team in almost 30 years, having last been done by the 1990-91 MAAC Championship Peacock squad who earned 12 wins in Jersey City that season.

Unprecedented Rookie Achievement
  • On Mar. 2, Aaron Estrada won his third MAAC Pepsi Zero Rookie of the Week award, improving Saint Peter's season tally to nine freshman weekly accolades.
  • The nine overall weekly honors lead all MAAC schools in 2019-20 and the honor was the fifth straight for the Peacocks in as many weeks and the sixth in the past seven weeks.
  • The nine awards tie the program's record for most weekly awards in a single season, matching the 2003-04 team, which produced four players of the week (Keydren Clark) and five rookies of the week (Shane Nichols).
  • The true-freshman quintet of Estrada, Daryl Banks III, Fousseyni Drame, Hassan Drame, and Doug Edert make Saint Peter's the first MAAC team in league history to have five separate individuals claim at least one conference rookie of the week award, surpassing the 2015-16 Fairfield University team which had four individuals claim the award.

Next Up
  • Saint Peter's will head to Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City for the 2020 Hercules Tires MAAC Basketball Championship as either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed.
  • The Peacocks will have a first-round bye and will begin action in the tournament's quarterfinals on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at either 7 p.m. or 9:30 p.m.
