Opening Tip
  • The Saint Peter's men's basketball team looks to improve to 2-0 in MAAC play for the first time since the 2015-16 season, when the team opens up the home MAAC slate on Sunday, Jan. 5 with Marist. 
  • The game will air on ESPN+ with opening tip set for 2 p.m.
  • The Peacocks began MAAC play with a bang, knocking off four-time defending champion, Iona College, 75-74 on Friday night in New Rochelle.
  • After trailing by as many as 17 points late in the second half, Saint Peter's closed out the game on a 24-9 run, capped off with a coast to coast buzzer beating layup by Daryl Banks III.
  • The win snapped a 10-game losing streak to the conference powerhouse and preseason favorites.
  • In addition to the game-winning basket, Banks led all-scorers with a career-high 25 points.
 
Things to Know Before the MAAC Home Opener
Series History
  • The dual on Sunday between Saint Peter's and Marist will be the 56th all-time contest since 1980-81 and the 53rd meeting since Marist joined the league during the 1997-98 season.
  • The Peacocks lead the all-time series 32-23 and own a 30-22 advantage with both as MAAC members.
  • Saint Peter's has controlled the series in recent years, holding an 8-1 mark over Marist since the 2015-16 campaign.
  • In 2018-19, the Peacocks went a perfect 3-0 against the Red Foxes, earning wins in both regular games and picking up a tournament win in the first round of the MAAC Championship.
Saint Peter's in Conference Home Openers
  • The Peacocks are 20-18 all-time in MAAC home openers, over the league's 38 seasons.
  • In the past decade, Saint Peter's is 6-4 in conference home openers, having won its Jersey City opener the past two seasons.
 
Class of 2023
  • The Peacocks freshman class has been the driving force for Saint Peter's this season.
  • All six true freshmen have started in at least one game this season with the group having played 57 percent of the team's total minutes this year.
  • The class of 2023 has accounted for 63 percent of the team's scoring, eight times this season a freshman has been the team's leading scorer, and four of the top five season scoring leaders are from the class.
  • Additionally, the class has produced two MAAC Rookie of the Week award winners in twin brothers Fousseyni Drame and Hassan Drame, plus sharp shooter Doug Edert has been one of the best three-point shooters in the nation all season (currently ranked third in the NCAA for three-point shooting percentage).
