JERSEY CITY, NJ – After falling behind by two sets, the Saint Peter's women's volleyball team put up a valiant effort against Maryland Eastern Shore before ultimately falling 1-3 (17-25, 18-25, 25-18, 20-25) on Wednesday night in the Yanitelli Center.
Match Notes
- The Peacocks stormed out to a 10-5 lead with early kills from Stephanie Rivera, Carolina Ruiz, Danielle Lopez, Alanis Alvarado, and Angeleyshka Curbelo.
- The Hawks eventually tied the match at 11, and then outscored the Peacocks 14-6 for the set victory.
- Saint Peter's showing in the second set was rough, as the squad's only lead came at 1-0 before dropping the set 18-25.
- The Peacocks refused to go away quietly as the team battled back in the third set.
- Saint Peter's took advantage of four attack errors early on, taking control of the set at 5-3.
- Multiple ties and lead changes would occur but neither team would lead by more than two points until Ruiz earned a kill that put the Peacocks ahead 17-14.
- Saint Peter's built on the lead with kills coming from Curbelo and Lopez, but Alvarado closed out the set with three straight kills to give the Peacocks a 25-18 victory.
- The fourth set was a trade-off between both sides with nine ties and five lead changes.
- UMES managed to grab an 18-15 lead, but the Peacocks continued to fight and kept the deficit to three points (20-23) after Alvarado again put home the kill.
- Saint Peter's would not score another point in the set, dropping the fourth frame 20-25.

- Alvarado led Saint Peter's with 17 kills, two assists, six digs, an ace and a solo block.
- Lopez (8) and Curbelo (7) were the team's second and third kills leaders respectively on the night.
- Ruiz had a strong outing with five kills and a season-high 13 digs to lead the defense.
