JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's softball team lost both games of its MAAC doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to the Iona Gaels. The Peacocks fell in game one 10-0, followed by a 16-2 defeat in game two.
Game Notes vs. Iona:
Game 1:
- Both teams went scoreless in the first inning.
- In the second inning, the Gaels scored three runs to take the lead 3-0.
- In the sixth inning the Gaels hit a three-run homerun to add to their lead, 6-0.
- In the final inning, Iona scored four more runs to end the game, winning 10-0.
- Sydney Ramsey and Barbara Verrastro each notched two strikeouts.
Game 2:
- Iona hit their first homerun of the game in the first inning.
- In the third inning, Alyssa Adams hit a homerun of her own, tying the game 1-1.
- In the fourth inning, the Gaels scored six runs, leading 7-1.
- In the fifth inning, Iona added nine more runs, leading 16-1.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Anja Solveig Kane hit her first career home run, but the Peacocks couldn't get a rally started, ending the game 16-2.
- Sydney Senerchia totaled eight strikeouts for the Peacocks against the Gaels in game two.
