BALTIMORE, MD - The Saint Peter's softball team split its midweek series at Coppin State on Wednesday. The Peacocks lost the first game 2-1 and won the second game 12-2.
Game Notes vs. Coppin State:
Game 1:
- Through four innings, both teams went scoreless.
- In the fifth, Barbara Verrastro singled to right field bringing in the first run of the game, giving the Peacocks the lead of 1-0.
- In the bottom of the fifth inning, Coppin State scored the game tying run to even the contest at 1-1.
- With the score still locked at 1-1, Coppin State reached on a throwing error to score the walk-off run, winning 2-1.
- Barbara Verrastro earned the only hit for the Peacocks, which resulted in the Peacocks lone run.
- Sydney Senerchia pitched all seven innings, earning seven strikeouts against Coppin State.
Game 2:
- In the second inning, Coppin State, scored two runs taking the lead 2-0.
- The Peacocks would respond with 12 straight unanswered runs to seal the game.
- The 12-run rally began in the third when Georgia Verrastro reached on a fielder's choice bringing in the first run for Saint Peter's.
- Alina Guevara doubled to left center earning three RBI's to give the Peacocks the lead at 4-1.
- Theamaris Ramirez hit a two-run home run in the next at bat, extending the lead to 6-2.
- In the fourth, Verrastro and Guevara each singled earning one RBI each to stretch the lead to 8-2.
- Ramirez singled to left field in the seventh inning sending home another run for the Peacocks, to go up 9-2.
- Alyssa Adams completed the rally when she doubled to left center to bring in the last three tallies to win the game 12-2.
- Georgia Verrastro led the team in hits finishing with three.
- Taylor Lewis pitched four innings in her first appearance, earning the win over Coppin State as well as recording five strikeouts.
