Softball Finishes up at the Spartan Classic with a Win on Day Two

The Peacocks won their second game of the tournament against UNC Greensboro, 4-2, then lost to Sacred Heart 8-0, Delaware 4-3, and Towson 10-2

GREENSBORO, NC - The Saint Peter's softball team earned their second win of the season, defeating UNC Greensboro 4-2. The team lost the other three games in the Spartan Classic. 
 
Game Notes vs. Sacred Heart:
  • Sacred Heart and the Peacocks each went scoreless in the first two innings. 
  • The Pioneers scored the first runs of the game in the third inning, scoring two runs. 
  • Sacred Heart scored three runs in the beginning of the fifth inning.
  • The Pioneers tacked on insurance runs with a 3-run homerun hit to left field, finishing the game ahead 8-0. 
  • Taylor White, Alina Guevara, Alyssa Mido, and Barbara Verrastro each totaled one hit each against Sacred Heart, 
Game Notes vs. UNC Greensboro:
  • The Peacocks' game against UNC Greensboro was played over two days after a rain delay in the fourth inning on Friday forced the game to be postponed to Saturday.
  • The Peacocks scored the first run of the game against the Spartans from an Alyssa Mido RBI. 
  • UNC Greensboro answered in the bottom of the first inning, tying the game 1-1. 
  • Barbara Verrastro earned her first strikeout of the game in the second inning. 
  • In the third inning, Theamaris Ramirez grounded out to shortstop bringing in Harley Connors, to put the Peacocks back ahead. 
  • In the same inning, Anja Solveig Kane tripled to right field bringing in two RBIs, taking the lead 4-1.
  • The Spartans attempted to come back in the sixth inning but could only score one run, and the Peacocks won 4-2. 
Game Notes vs. University of Delaware:
  • Both teams went scoreless in the first inning of the game.
  • The Blue Hens crossed home three times in the second inning, taking the lead 3-0.
  • In the third inning, Alina Guevara singled to center field bringing in two runs, to put the Peacocks on the board, 3-2. 
  • In the fourth inning, both teams scored one run each.
  • Marissa Morales singled up the middle bringing in Theamaris Ramirez.
  • The Peacocks couldn't catch up finishing the game at 4-3. 
  • Anja Solveig Kane led the Peacocks, finishing with two hits against Delaware. 
Game Notes vs. Towson:
  • Toward the end of the first inning,  Alyssa Mido hit a 2-run homerun to left field, taking the lead 2-0. 
  • At the bottom of the first inning, Towson responded with four runs, leading 4-2.
  • The Tigers added three runs in the third and fourth inning.
  • The Peacocks were unable to score for the remainder of the game, letting the Towson earn the win 10-2. 
  • Barbara Verrastro and Alyssa Mido each had one hit for the Peacocks.

●     The Peacocks travel to Washington D.C on Wednesday, March 13.
