Softball Drops Both Games in Day One of Maryland Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Saint Peter's softball team lost both games on the opening day of the Maryland Invitational in College Park. The Peacocks (3-12) lost to Rhode Island 8-0 (six innings) before losing to Villanova 12-1 (five innings).
 
Game 1 vs. Rhode Island

• Both teams went scoreless in the first inning, with the Rams getting one hit and leaving one runner on base.
• The Rams (10-10) got on the board in the second inning with an RBI single to left field.
• Rhode Island added three more runs in the third inning to go ahead 4-0.
• The Rams added two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings to close out the game.
• Freshman Alyssa Mido recorded the only hit for the Peacocks, a double in the second inning. 

Game 2 vs. Villanova

• Villanova (12-12) was in the driver's seat from beginning to end as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning
• The Wildcats added two more runs in the third and three in the fourth to bring the score to 12-0.
• Saint Peter's senior Barbara Verrastro hit a homerun to left center in the fifth inning for the Peacocks' lone run of the day.
• Harley Connors also tacked on a hit for the Peacocks, a double to right center in the first inning.
