For Starters
  • The top-seeded Saint Peter's University men's soccer team will play host to third-seeded Iona College in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Final on Sunday, Nov. 17 in a 1 p.m. kickoff at Jaroschak Field.
  • Sunday's match will mark the first-ever championship title game to be played at Jaroschak Field, with the winner earning the league's automatic berth to the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
  • The Peacocks head into Sunding following a 3-2, come-from-behind victory over fourth-seeded Marist in the tournament's semifinal round on Thursday afternoon.
  • The Peacocks took the early lead in the contest after sophomore midfielder Jamie Davis scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from classmate Matt Hoyt in the 10th minute.
  • The Red Foxes responded quickly, finding the back of the net less than eight minutes later off the boot of Antek Sienkiel to level the ledger at 1-1. That score would hold through the remainder of the first half.
  • Marist would take its first lead of the match early in the second half after Stefan Copetti scored the go-ahead marker in the 52nd minute.
  • Staying true to what has been the theme of the season, the Peacocks would mount another late rally starting with freshman defender Tom Climpson scoring his first goal off an assist from senior captain Frederik Lindqvist in the 81st minute to spark the home side and knot the score at 2-2.
  • With overtime potentially looming, junior midfielder Jordan Jowers assured the extra session wouldn't be needed after taking the game into his own hands with minutes to play.
  • The Peacocks' co-captain turned what first appeared to be an unlikely scoring chance into the go-ahead goal after taking a long feed from Immanuel Sierck into the box. Jowers would maneuver around a defender and then fired a perfectly placed shot past a stretched-out Marist goalkeeper to give the home side a lead they would never relinquish to send Saint Peter's to the league tournament's title bout.
We Meet Again
  • The Peacocks and the Gaels will meet at Jaroschak for the second time this season, this time for the MAAC title.
  • The last time the two sides faced off against each other from across the pitch, the Peacocks came away with a decisive 3-1 victory over the Gaels in what was, at the time, a matchup of the top-two teams in the conference standings.
  • Davis, Jowers and junior midfielder Tom Coulson each scored in the Oct. 19 matchup against Iona, with Coulson heading in the game-winner off the free kick courtesy of Davis.
  • Making the victory even more impressive was the fact that Saint Peter's played down a man for the majority of the match after a red card was issued in the first half. All three Saint Peter's goals in that game came with the Peacocks playing shorthanded.
Fight Until the End
  • The Peacocks have been stellar after halftime this season, racking up an astounding 31 goals after the midway point in their games this season.
  • Equally as impressive is the fact that the Peacocks have posted a 5-1-0 record when going into overtime, with their only loss in extra minutes ending in a 2-1 decision at Quinnipiac on Oct. 2.
  • Perhaps the most impressive come-from-behind victory came in their Oct. 12 match against Canisius, in which the Peacocks trailed 3-1 in the 84th minute. Saint Peter's would put on an offensive display for the ages, tallying three goals in a four-minute span from 83:20-87:04 to take the 4-3 win in regulation.
Top Men
  • Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Peacocks received nine All-MAAC honors from eight individuals, as voted on by the league's coaches.
  • Head coach Julian Richens was voted as the unanimous coach of the year by his peers, while Dominic Laws earned the title of MAAC Offensive Player of the Year.
  • Laws was also joined by Jordan Jowers as the only two players in the league to receive unanimous selections to the All-MAAC First Team, while Tom Coulson, Jamie Davis, and Philip Smith each earned All-MAAC Second Team distinctions, with freshmen Tom Climpson and Herman Wulff rounding out the honors after being voted to the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
  • More importantly, those individual accolades have helped produce one of the most successful campaigns in program history highlighted Saint Peter's winning the MAAC regular season title for the first time since 2010 and earning the top seed in the 2019 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship.
Stiff Competition
  • The Gaels bring with them three All-MAAC honorees, including Defensive Player of the Year, Malcom Moreno.
  • Moreno is the Gaels' first Gael to ever win the award, after bolstering an Iona backline which recorded three shutouts on the year.
  • The Gaels will also see play from All-MAAC First Team member Mauro Bravo and MAAC All-Rookie Team selection Nacho Sanchez.
Up Next
  • The winner of Sunday's final will earn the MAAC Men's Soccer title and earn an automatic bid in the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
