Peacocks ready for matchup of top-two MAAC teams this weekend

The Saint Peter's University men's soccer team returns to Jaroschak Field to entertain Iona College in a matchup of the top-two teams in the MAAC standings on Saturday (Oct. 19). Game time is set for 2 p.m.
The Peacocks head into this weekend's game coming off an impressive 4-1 victory at hOURglass rival Monmouth on Oct. 16.
After trailing the Hawks, 1-0, early in the match, the Peacocks rallied back to score four unanswered tallies, including three second-half goals.
Thirty-six minutes into the first half, junior midfielder Jordan Jowers put in the equalizer off a helper from teammate Dominic Laws to level the proceedings at 1-1.
The game would remain tied until the 67th minute, when junior defender Philip Smith put in the go-ahead goal off an assist from Jamie Davis.
The Peacocks kept pushing the momentum in their favor with another goal less than 10 minutes later, as Laws joined in on the scoring action off a setup from Matt Hoyt in the 75th minute.
An own goal by the hosts would account for the final score of the contest, as Saint Peter's earned its fourth straight victory by a 4-1 final margin.

History with the Gaels

The Peacocks and the Gaels have a storied history together, after first meeting in 1980.
Since then, Saint Peter's holds a 17-19-4 record against Iona, including a 2-1 victory in the MAAC Championship title game on November 14, 2010.
The last meeting between the two sides ended in a 2-2 tie when the Peacocks traveled to New Rochelle last October 6, 2018.
