Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's baseball team gave up one run in each of the final three innings, resulting in a 6-4 heartbreaking defeat to NJIT in a mid-week non-conference meeting at Jaroschak Field.
Anthony Ramos (North Bergen, NJ / North Bergen) played a role in all four Peacock runs, accounting for three RBIs and one scored run. Jared Quintero (Paterson, NJ / Passaic County Tech HS) logged the final RBI, and runs were scored by Hunter Mason (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee), Cole Robbins (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East), and Anthony Assante (Brick, NJ / Brick Memorial).
The Peacocks fell behind 3-0 midway through the third inning. In the bottom half of the frame, with Assante and Mason on, Ramos came to the plate and hit a base clearing two RBI single, getting the Peacocks on the board.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Ramos hit another RBI single, this time scoring Robbins who tied up the game at 3 apiece. Two batters later, Quintero hit the RBI single that allowed Ramos to score the go-ahead run and give Saint Peter's a 4-3 advantage.
Following the sixth inning, the Peacocks still held on to a 4-3 lead. The Highlanders would tally one run in each of the final three innings, knotting the game at 4-4 in the seventh, scoring the go-ahead run in the eighth, and adding an insurance run in the ninth.
Peacock starting righty, Willie Krajnik (Lyndhurst, NJ / Saint Mary) saw seven innings of work and he struck out 11 of the 31 batters he faced.
The Peacocks have a weekend bye. The team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 24 with a home meeting with Fairleigh Dickinson.
