Baseball Drops Mid-Week Game to Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Saint Peter's baseball team suffered a shutout on Wednesday against Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA. The Peacocks were defeated 14-0 in the game.

 

Four Peacocks made it on base in the contest with two by way of being hit by a pitch. In the fifth inning, Tom Campo (Pine Beach, NJ / Toms River South) was hit by a pitch with two outs, getting him on base. In the following inning, Eric Mercado (Bronx, NY / All Hallows) also wore a pitch that advanced him to first base. The next batter, Alex Slawinski (Carteret, NJ / Carteret), made contact with the ball and reached on a fielder's choice while Mercado was thrown out at second. The final batter to reach was Anthony Ramos (North Bergen, NJ / North Bergen) in the seventh inning, who reached first by way of a walk.

 

Lehigh's freshman duo of Peter Woltersdorf and Matt Svanson combined to no-hit the Peacocks. Woltersdorf was the starting pitcher who picked up the win after tossing six innings, and Svanson grabbed the save going the final three innings for Lehigh.

 

Steve Epstein (Marlboro, NJ / Marlboro), Chris Pimentel (Bronx, NY / LaSalle Academy), and Aditya Chandel (Edison, NJ / J.P. Stevens) combined to pitch the eight innings for Saint Peter's. Epstein (0-3) got the decision after going three innings on the mound to start the day.

 

The Peacocks will resume conference action this weekend with a home series against Quinnipiac. The Peacocks will meet the Bobcats on Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m. and will play a double header on Saturday, March 31 beginning at noon.
