First Pitch

The Peacocks will resume non-conference play away from home for the next two contests. On Tuesday, March 27, the Peacocks return to Houlihan Park in Bronx, NY for a meeting with Fordham at 3:30 p.m. On Wednesday, March 28, the Peacocks travel to Bethlehem, PA for a game against Lehigh at 3 p.m.

 

History with Fordham

Tuesday's meeting will mark the 31st all-time meetings between Saint Peter's and Fordham dating back to 1973. The Peacocks trail the Rams in the series 7-23. The Peacocks last won against Fordham during the 2016 season, knocking off the Rams 2-0 on the road.

The Fordham Rams hold a 12-7-1 record. The Rams have won four out of five series this season and are riding a two-game winning streak.

 

History with Lehigh

Wednesday's contest will be the ninth all-time meeting between Saint Peter's and Lehigh since 1997. The Peacocks hold a 1-7 record against the Mountain Hawks and Lehigh has won four straight against the Peacocks.

 

Scout on the Mountain Hawks

The Lehigh Mountain Hawks are currently 9-12 and will visit fellow MAAC school Rider on Tuesday before returning home to host the Peacocks on Wednesday. Lehigh is 3-3 over its last six games and Wednesday's meeting will be its home-opener.

Over the weekend, the Peacocks lost the MAAC season opening series against Manhattan.

 

On Deck

The Peacocks will resume conference action this weekend with a home series against Quinnipiac. The Peacocks will meet the Bobcats on Friday, March 30 at 3 p.m. and will play a double header on Saturday, March 31 beginning at noon.

 

MAAC Preseason Polls

The defending MAAC Baseball Champions, Marist, was voted by the leagues 11 head coaches to repeat as MAAC Baseball Champions in 2018, receiving seven out of 11 first-place votes, totaling 113 votes. Coming in second place was Canisius with two first-place votes, followed by Fairfield in third with one first-place vote, and Niagara in fourth also earning one first-place vote. Monmouth rounded out the top five, followed by Iona, Siena, Quinnipiac, Rider, Manhattan, and then the Peacocks.

 

About the Coach

Danny Ramirez begins his second season at the helm of the Peacocks. Ramirez joined Saint Peter's with over 25 years of experience as a player, coach, and scout in the Northeast. As a player at Bronx Community College he was a member of the 1994 CUNY City Championship team and the 1995 team that played in the Junior College World Series. Ramirez has coached and managed at many levels beginning his career with the Boys Club of New York and Major League Baseball's RBI program where he led several teams to city championships while working with inner city youth of all ages. Ramirez then coached at Lasalle Academy High School for two years before accepting the Head Men's Baseball Coach position at Globe Institute of Technology. At Globe, he led the Knights to the school's first district tournament win before moving on to Monroe College in 2007. At Monroe College, Ramirez was part of the coaching staff as the program transitioned from a Division III program in 2006, into one of the top NJCAA Division I programs in the Northeast. He served as the Infield/Outfield Coach, Strength Training and Agility development, and most recently as Associate Head Coach/Pitching Coach. Throughout the past nine years, Monroe has produced over 60 NCAA signees and several players that were either drafted by Major League Organizations or signed free agent contracts to play professional baseball.
