Men’s Soccer Routs Rival Monmouth in Shutout Win

The Peacocks effortlessly defeated Monmouth 4-0 at Jaroschak Field on Wednesday

JERSEY CITY, NJ – For the second straight game, the Saint Peter's men's soccer team easily handled its MAAC opponent en route to a blowout win. This time the victim was hOURglass Rival Monmouth who the Peacocks beat 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Jersey City.
 
Game Notes
  • For the second time in as many games, Saint Peter's (6-6-2, 3-2-1) scored at least three goals in the first half of the game to take a commanding lead into the break.
  • Jordan Jowers got the Peacocks' first half rally going with a goal just one minute and a half into action.
  • Dominic Laws sent a long pass to Steven Parry who then set up Jowers for the easy goal in front of the net.
  • In minute 12, Jamie Davis sent a perfect pass to Laws, who hit the Monmouth defender with a spin move leaving him one on one with the goalie who could not stop the shot to the near post for the Peacocks' second goal.
  • In the 23rd minute, Laws was set up again, this time by Frederik Lindqvist who sent a pass into the box where Laws headed in his second tally of the game to the far post.
  • The Peacocks ended the first 45 minutes with 13 shots including five on goal while holding Monmouth (2-11-1, 0-7) to three total shots (none on goal).
  • The team sat on the three-goal advantage for the next 60 minutes before Jowers added the final goal at the 83:45 mark.
  • Wilber Nunez sent a cross to Nick Marna who quickly dished it to Jowers for the one timer from the top of the box. 
Inside the Numbers
  • Laws scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season, while Jowers' two tallies put him right behind Laws with seven goals on the season.
  • Freshman keeper Jason Dubrovich made three saves, earning his second clean sheet of the year.
  • Dubrovich's season record improved to 5-3-2.
  • Saint Peter's outshot Monmouth 17-12 and 6-3 on goal.
  • This was the third time this season that the Peacocks tallied four goals in a single game, a feat that the program has not done since 2003 when that team posted six four goal games.
  • The Peacocks scored four goals in back-to-back contests for the first time since 2007 when that Peacock squad defeated Rider 4-3 in overtime on October 19 and then followed it up with a 4-0 shutout win over Loyola two days later.
  • Saint Peter's MAAC point total improved to 10 points, currently putting the team in fourth place in the MAAC standings.
