Box Score JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team squandered an early lead to rival Rider University on Saturday afternoon, leading to a 4-1 setback. The Peacocks fall to 0-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on the season.
The Peacocks looked like they were on their way to a win when freshman Dominic Laws scored the first goal of the game just 2 minutes in on a feed into the box from Santiago Mateus, that led to the game opening goal. Six minutes later, Tom Coulson sent a shot at the goal but Rider keeper David Pastuna made the stop, keeping the Peacocks lead at 1-0. At the 14', Rider scored the equalizing goal, tying the game at 1-1 and the teams took the knotted score into the locker room. Saint Peter's outshot Rider 6-5 in the half.
In the second half, Rider scored the go-ahead goal at the 46', just a minute into the half from Mathis Catanzaro. The Broncs added two more goals at the 50' and the 62' with Pablo DeCastro and Elliott Otmani scoring the goals respectively, leading to the 4-1 victory.
The Peacocks starting keeper, Robbie Anderson made six saves in the defeat. Laws, Coulson, Ezequiel Cei, and Jordan Jowers all logged two shots on the day.
The Peacocks will be back in action on Wednesday, October 4 at home when they host Manhattan at 3pm.
