JERSEY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Iona Sunday evening at Jaroschak Field. The Peacocks fell 11-1 in the first game and 12-2 in the second. The Peacock's overall record drops to 4-32 and their MAAC record is now 2-13.
Game 1
Crystal Carlucci pitched five innings. It was a short game for the Peacocks as they were able to get only two hits off in five innings.
Iona led the Peacocks early as they finished with three runs in the top of the first leading the Peacocks 3-0.
In the bottom of the first inning, Shamar Sanchez opened with a double to second base. Brianna Hutchinson followed with a double advancing Sanchez home. Saint Peter's ended the inning trailing Iona 3-1.
The Gaels broke away into a strong lead as they scored three run and one home run leading the Peacocks 7-1.
The Gaels put up four more runs to win the game 11-1.
Game 2
Hutchinson led the Peacocks with two RBI's and Sanchez and Tiffani Lambert finished with one run each.
Iona jumped out to the lead first, scoring one run in the top of the first, two in the second, four at the top of the third and five in the fifth, extending its lead over the Peacocks to 12-0.
It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth when the Peacocks ended the shutout. Hutchinson singled to first and advanced both Sanchez and Lambert to home base tallying two RBI's.
The Peacocks dropped to contest to the Gaels 12-2.
Next up
The Peacocks will head to Connecticut to face Fairfield in a doubleheader matchup on May 6. The first game is scheduled to start at 12pm.
